Keynote Speaker: Dr. William Grabe

We are pleased to announce that Professor William Grabe from Northern Arizona University will be our keynote speaker for the June 2007 Communication Symposium. He will give the initial talk for the symposium that will frame our thinking about English literacy across courses for multilingual students.
Dr. Grabe teaches several courses in both the MA-TESL and Applied Linguistics programs, including Introduction to Linguistics, English Grammar, Psycholinguistics, Second Language Reading and Writing, and Literacy.
His research interests are in reading, writing, literacy, written discourse analysis, and content based instruction.
He co-authored Theory and Practice of Writing (with R. B. Kaplan; Longman, 1996) and Teaching and Researching Reading (with F. Stoller; Longman, 2002). He served as editor of the Annual Review of Applied Linguistics (Cambridge University Press, 1990-2000). He is a past President of the American Association for Applied Linguistics (2001-2002). He recently received the 2005 Distinguished Scholarship and Service Award from AAAL. He also serves as a member of the TOEFL Committee of Examiners for Educational Testing Service.
