Dr. Vivian Zamel

Professor Vivian Zamel will be helping us understand how faculty across disciplines can identify and address the needs of multilingual students. Zamel is a Professor in the Department of English at the University of Massachusetts Boston, and she is Director of the ESL Program and the Center for the Improvement of Teaching (CIT). Zamel teaches courses in English as a Second Language, Composition Theory and Practice, and Methodology of Teaching ESL.
Her publications include Enriching ESOL Pedagogy, ed. with Ruth Spack (2002); Negotiating Academic Literacies, ed. with Ruth Spack
(1998); Teaching and Learning with Diverse Student Writers (1993),
co-authored with Eleanor Kutz and Souzie Q. Groden. She has also been
published in TESOL Quarterly, College ESL, College Composition and
Communication, and Journal of Basic Writing. Zamel received her Ph.D. from Columbia University.
