Major research interests
My interests center around curriculum design and development, the pedagogy of writing, and the history of English Departments with a particular emphasis on how writing is conceptualized and taught. As a Senior Lecturer, the majority of my time is devoted to teaching and administration, and the research I do makes its public appearance primarily in terms of programs rather than publications.

History of English Studies and the Teaching of Writing: Factors influencing changes in the theory and practice of teaching writing; role and influence of Classical Rhetoric on contemporary methods of teaching writing; Relationship of literature and rhetoric within English Studies; development of rhetorical and situational approaches to the teaching of writing.

Writing Textbooks: History; Relation between scholarship and textbook approaches to the teaching of writing; Social and economic influences.

Technical / Professional Writing: How specialized information is communicated to non-expert audiences, particularly in those instances in which non-experts use the information to make significant personal or professional decisions. [Return]
