MAPW students work and study in reserved office
space with dedicated computer and desktop publishing equipment.
The Masters' Computing Cluster (MCC) is fully equipped with current
versions of all software that students need for their required courses including
word processing, page layout, drawing, imaging, and Web authoring applications.
Cluster hardware includes Windows and MacIntosh
CPUs, zip drives, CD, burners, laser printers, and scanners.
The English department's usability testing lab allows students
to conduct user tests of software and print documents, capturing user performance
with digital video for subsequent analysis and editing.
Students in the MAPW program may make use of Carnegie Mellon's on-site
print shop, which provides Linotronic printing and other imagesetting
services. These and other facilities provide MAPWs the singular
opportunity to become knowledgeable about the conventional and electronic
publishing techniques demanded by today's employers.
Prospective students considering a computer purchase for use related
to the program should consult the Program Director.
