All readings will be held in the Adamson Wing, Baker Hall, on the Carnegie Mellon University campus at 8:00 pm. All readings are free and open to the public.

Eugene Gloria
September 15

Eugene Gloria is the author of two books of poems: Hoodlum Birds, (Penguin, 2006) and Drivers at the Short-Time Motel (Penguin, 2000). which was selected for the 1999 National Poetry Series and the 2001 Asian American Literary Award. He has received a Fulbright, a Pushcart Prize, and a Poetry Society of America Award. He is an associate professor of English and the 2006-2008 Richard W. Peck Chair in Creative Writing at DePauw University.

Dave Eggers
January 28

Dave Eggers most recent book is What is the What-- The Autobiography of
Valentino Achak Deng: A Novel
, which deals with the horrific challenges of
the Lost Boys of Sudan. In 2005 Eggers was named by Time magazine as one of the 100 Most Influential People of the Year. He is the author of the best selling A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius, 1999, the editor of The Best American Nonrequired Reading, 2002, You Shall Know Our Velocity, 2003, and co-author of Teachers Have it Easy: The Big Sacrifices and Small Salaries of American's Teachers, 2005. Eggers has set up drop-in writing centers for children all over the country, where children get free tutoring, English as second language classes, writing work shops, and standardized test preparation. Eggers also launched McSweeney's, a publishing house that produces both his own works and those of emerging authors. He also publishes McSweeney's literary quarterly.

Eden McNutt
February 13

Eden McNutt works in a number of multi-disciplinary collaborations, weaving together poetry, sound, and movement to create a radical new art form. He asks, what is it that needs to be expressed, in this moment, in this place? He is the founder and leader of Pittsburgh-based improvisational ensemble Dust and Feathers. He has performed with writers, musicians, dancers, and visual artists at Pittsburgh venues such as Wood Street Galleries, The Mattress Factory, The University of Pittsburgh, Byham Theatre, Zen Center of Pittsburgh, The Frick Museum, and many other places. As a member of Syrinx Ensemble, a group dedicated to exploring communication with birds, Eden recently performed at the National Aviary of Pittsburgh and the Central Park Zoo's Aviary in New York. He has also performed and recorded with performance artists in Austria and the Ukraine.

Russell Banks
May 2

Russell Banks is author of many highly acclaimed novels, including
Continental Drift, Rule of the Bone, Cloudsplitter, The Sweet Hereafter, and Affliction. The latter two were made into feature films. Banks is also a
short story writer, and author of The Angel on the Roof. He has written a
movie adaptation of Jack Kerouac's On the Road for producer Francis Ford Coppola, slated for production in 2006. He has been named a New York State author and Author in Residence at the University of Maryland. His work has been translated into twenty languages and has received numerous international prizes and awards.
